Our integrated curriculum covers essential areas such as physical health, social and emotional well-being, and personal safety. By seamlessly connecting these topics with the existing humanities and values education curriculum in primary schools, we create a holistic learning journey for students from Primary 1 to Primary 6. This structured approach equips students with knowledge while nurturing vital life skills that contribute to their overall development.
Research has shown that effective drug education should start from an early age, be sequential and age-appropriate. LEAP’s primary programmes focus on four main areas:
Harold leads students on a playdate to discover the importance of physical activity, hand-washing and dental hygiene. Students are also given an introduction to
proper cleaning tools.
Harold brings out his magic photo album to help students learn about growth, the role of the brain and the five senses.
Students are also invited to Chimp’s birthday party where they explore the importance of a balanced diet.
Students join Harold and his superhero friends on their missions to explore elements of healthy living, pollution, body parts, and qualities of a good friend. Students find out how friends can care for and support each other.
Embark on a journey to the planet Cheesatron. Students learn about a balanced diet and strategies to choose healthy snacks. Harold and alien Zelda will take students on a tour to explore the digestive system to discover how food is processed.
Agent Jack recruits the students on a health mission to learn the skills and strategies required to build healthy relationships, as well as to discover the function of the circulatory system, and myths about drugs and medicines.
Students learn to make informed decisions by helping Dr. Wacko and his assistants explore common drugs and its effects on the nervous system. Help the assistants solve a bullying conflict by learning how to be an upstander.
Students join Chase to investigate the issue of smoking, including a detailed look at the respiratory system, cigarette ingredients as well as social consequences of smoking. Help Chase deal with peer pressure and practise refusal skills.
Students learn all about stress and explore positive coping strategies to build resilience. Students will also take a closer look at the physical and social consequences of using alcohol and other illicit drugs.
LEAP offers a diverse range of specialized courses designed to address critical topics such as information literacy, sex education, the transition to secondary school, and social and emotional learning. Each course is customizable, ensuring it meets the unique needs of your students. Offered in formats such as engaging talks or interactive class lessons, these targeted learning opportunities empower students to navigate challenges in their lives with confidence.
Our Primary Programme is delivered to schools in specially designed mobile classrooms known as Life Education Centres (LECs). The LECs provide a relaxed environment for students to learn, and to participate in discussions and role-play. Each LEC is equipped with state-of-the-art technology including audiovisual aids, illuminated body systems, a “talking brain” and LEAP’s mascots – Harold the Giraffe and Holly the Horse – who talk, sing, and help reinforce messages of a healthy lifestyle to children. The programmes can be delivered in Cantonese, English or Mandarin.
Our series of Health & Wellness events are designed to enhance students’ holistic well-being, in alignment with the Education Bureau’s “4Rs Mental Health Charter” and the “Mental Health@School” initiative for the 2024/25 school year. Scheduled to coincide with school mental health week and post-examination periods, these events aim to reduce student stress and foster a positive mindset. LEAP’s Health & Wellness Coach, Harold the Giraffe, will visit school campus to engage with students, sharing invaluable tips and resources for achieving holistic well-being. Through health talks, mindfulness practices, game booths, and other enjoyable activities, Harold will cheer students up and support their overall well-being.
In partnership with many English-speaking schools over the years, LEAP has continued to fine-tune its programmes to accommodate various curricula. Its aim is to strengthen messages that build up the importance of a healthy lifestyle with appropriate skills and strategies.
LEAP’s programmes integrate well with the International Baccalaureate Primary Year’s Programme of Inquiry. In addition, the programmes develop and enhance the learner’s profile; empowering students to become fulfilled and contributing adults.
Every student receives a booklet and teachers receive a teacher’s manual to conduct follow-up sessions to reinforce knowledge on physiology, nutrition, drugs and the building up of skills.
For any school that is interested, LEAP would be pleased to conduct a pre-visit meeting with teachers to discuss how the LEAP curriculum can best integrate into their individual subjects.
